How do I get rid of a red line which says that I deleted text?

I am a new user of Word. I have been creating an index for a book. It is a
stand alone document. For no reason that I know (guess I hit some key that I
didn't mean to) some of the entries have appeared in red. Also, there is a
line which stretches to the right side of the page and an oblong box with the
words: Deleted: agents, 99.
I have succeeded in getting rid of the red entries by deleting them and
retyping them, but I can't get rid of the "deleted" line. Any suggestions?

- I guess you've turned on the Track Changes function.
Go to the Reviewing toolbar (View > Toolbars > Reviewing) and deselect the
Track Changes button.
If you are tracking the changes made to the document (or somebody else wants
to), you can make them just disappear by selecting 'Final' from the Display
for Review pull-down menu (also from the Reviewing toolbar).
