text disappears when I try to insert a letter within a mispelling

MS Word (XP for Home) won't allow me to insert a letter in a mispelled word.

The letter before the insertion point will disappear when I try to type the

omitted letter.

    • Sounds like you've gotten yourself into OverType mode - do the letters OVR

      appear in black in the Status Bar (at the bottom of the document window)? If

      so, double-click the box they are in and you should be OK.
